Squirrels have been stealing flags at a cemetery and using them for nests. Is this a political statement?

And to make matters worse they are red squirrels. Should we sit idly by and watch them defile and deface our nation's symbol, or should we string them. The commie loving varmints. This was on the internet news. Squirrels were taking the flags placed on graves up to their branches to make nests. Is nothing sacred. Have the squirrels gone nuts?Squirrels have been stealing flags at a cemetery and using them for nests. Is this a political statement?
yes, think about it for a moment. what has our government done for the squirrel?

they're flattened by our cars on our highways, electrocuted by our cables, wires, drown in our pools... shot at by our taxpayers..

so on.

That's funny I would love to see that, the squirrels have the right idea the flag means poo poo.
well that's a better use for them than flapping in the breeze above rotting flesh, at least something living is benefiting.
Ironically, greenies have afforded endangered status to the red squirrel, so your hands are tied on this one. Too bad they weren't the gray squirrels...then you could ';harvest'; them.
let theme keep it . because when they clean up the cemetery it going to be thrown away
what are americans and isrealians doing to people?? they are using them as trash!!!...im sorry but i mean that if you only know what happens out there and how they treat people in jail, what they do to women and children.....of course these people will despise america ...only for its politecs....it maybe their only way to say no ....they are so helpless...what about that american reporter that isreals killed in palestine by american made truck...they ran over her just because she is not on their side.....isnt she a national symbol??!!!
let's nuke em!
subsidized housing!?
Even the squirrels want to be en wrapped in the U.S.
yes even squirrels became nuts because of us they are our mirrors monkey see monkey do
We should arrest them all and force them to be informents, you get the net and I'll get to work on the tiny handcuffs.
I like squirrels. We should give them something else to use for their nests.
yep, they have been nuts for centuries, didnt you know that?

Thanks for the laugh!

That goes for most of the answers too! More laughs please!
I can't read your question properly........what do you mean ??

Your name looks like a vision test at the optician's anyway !:-)
u gotta wonder r they trying 2 make a statement and will always b nuts!

red squirrels?

send 'em back 2 the uk.

our native red squirrel's dying out, thanks 2 the grey/black imports.
Squirrels have always been full of nuts, at least the male variety....lol

They need a good dose of Varmit Busters to recover those flags, retrain the squirrels and send them packing to Mexico. Let them lose there and do their thing....lol...anywhere as long as it isn't Canada....:)
WHY DO SQUIRRELS HATE AMERICA?!?
What A Sign of The Times....
It's open season. Let's declare war on the squirrels.
Well, if you want to catch one of them, climb up a tree and act like a nut
It's part of the animal conspiracy! They're coming for us...lock your doors.
Squirrels are opportunists. They want warm nests - we put out all those handy pieces of cloth - they use them.
No, but I think you have!
no because they have know idea what it is.
Everyone wants part of the welfare system , even the squirrels.
yes it is a statement!

they want to show how patriotic they are and how much they love thier land by displaying the flag proudly in thier homes!

Help, i want to build a nesting box for some red squirrels in my yard?

i want them to have babies in there, so if anyone knows a good way to build a red squirrel nesting box could they tell me how. also it doesn't have to be a box, just a house.

You have to be out of your mind to want red squirrels to breed. Red squirrels are the most destructive nieghborhood animal there is. I had one get into my attic once, it chewed wiring, ripped up insulation, chewed holes in the siding. But if that makes you happy, have at it.
I would think something similar to a birdhouse (only bigger) would work, try google-ing it and find something there, might even find some instructions.

What would you do if squirrels were nesting in your attic and on your roof?

Survival of the fittest. I would place my cat up there and turn my back.

We just can't save the world.

(OK I'm kidding. I don't usually have much to do at home so I would see if I could manually remove it, gently, and place it in a tree, after first researching where squirrels nests are usually made, since a cat could climb a tree.)

If you don't have time to do that, the Humane Society might have a solution. I'm not sure. Pest control would probably show little sympathy, since they are on a time clock and so forth. What would you do if squirrels were nesting in your attic and on your roof?
Haha yeah I'm Asian but I have compassion towards animals. My mom had my dad abandon a Schnauzer on the side of the road when I was a kid and remembering the dog just looking at us helplessly makes me cry endlessly. I will never be cruel to an animal.

Moth balls will run them off quick. Buy a box and just throw them out in the attic. You may smell the moth balls for a few days, but you need to get the squirrels out and find out where they came in and make sure it's fixed where they won't come back. Squirrels can cause a lot of damage. Chewing into electrical wires comes to mind when I think of squirrels in the attic. A definite fire hazard.
Catch them and carry them down to the park or the swamp and turn them loose.
moth balls....then plug the hole there coming in when there gone
What would I do? It is what I have done.

Squirrels cause major damage when ever they decide to take up residence in a home.

I made a decision, my home investment, or the squirrels.

Guess what, the squirrels lost. Pellet gun works the best if you are in town. If not, use a .22 caliber rimfire rifle.
i know you like them but a bb gun can rid the problem. i know you like them but sometimes the only way to rid your house of squirrels isnt what you want to do
Squirrels can and do cause EXTENSIVE damage if they get inside your house. I would get some poison, traps or a pellet gun and be rid of them ASAP!

We had just one young squirrel get inside the house and it tore up window and door frames all over the house trying to chew it's way out for just one work day. Until then, my wife thought they were ';cute';. Not so now!

Bert
Had that problem... the delightful lil rodents chewed through the phone cable to an entire apartment building.

First thing would be to put live-traps in your attic, then screen all possible entries to the attic, trim back your trees so they can't climb ONTO the roof. Trip the trees annually.
I would call a pest control company and explain my problem to them - if they could not get rid of the squirrels, I would ask them to refer me to a company that could get the job done.
i agree with you not likeing them die

but consider this , they will chew thru wires

and cause damage

so fill all the holes

and put wire over the wooden vents

HELP! a squirrel is trying to nest in my car and my dogs are trying to tear my car apart to get at it.?

This just started this afternoon The dogs were jumping on and scratching my car. when I opened the hood I saw a squirrel scury into the deeper areas of my car.

I then went for a fast ride in hopes that it would scare it out.

But when I came back I could tell it was still in there by the way the dogs were acting. I put the car behind a gate so my dogs would not damage it.

I can also see where the squirrel has been chewing in the engine compartment.

WHAT IS THE BEST WAY TO GET IT TO LEAVE SO IT DOESN'T STAY ALL WINTER?HELP! a squirrel is trying to nest in my car and my dogs are trying to tear my car apart to get at it.?
Moth balls. squirrels hate the smell and will leave post hasteHELP! a squirrel is trying to nest in my car and my dogs are trying to tear my car apart to get at it.?
do like the other guy said.call animal control.they can get it out for you, without killing it.
call animal patrol or whatever it is thats in your area. or take it to the self car wash, and spray water under your hood and under the car. or if you got a hose at home, try to flush it out.
go to the store and buy a fogger that you would get rid of cockroaches ina house set it under the middle of the car and you,ll get rid of everythingmaybe the motor and passengers too then come back air it out real good and washthe inside real good then i suggest a very strong air freshener
WHY IS IT THEY DO THIS?

This actually happens quite a lot, in all areas where the grey squirrel has populated. Most of the time, the reason is overpopulation - there are just so many squirrels out there that these places become attractive. Sometimes these are young and inexperienced squirrels or those that have been RAISED in a place such as this. We have found squirrels nesting in every conceivable place, from large industrial fans and equipment, to residential vents, fireplaces, grills and vehicles. Especially abandoned or little used vehicles, although there are squirrels that do this in vehicles that are used every day. Although I'm sure others might, I have not come up with this except with the grey squirrel.

OKAY, SO WHAT DO I DO?

For the present, you can open the hood up and leave it open so they will have no cover. (They don't like this.) Or, you can always try parking down the street, well out of the animal's comfortable territory. Even though this might put you out, somewhat, it might be easier than paying several hundred dollars for new wiring. Which, BTW, are charges that are generally not covered by your insurance....

    DETER THEM?

Well not really. Short of staking out a large dog within range of your car. Let me put it this way: there is no device, chemical, mechanical, magnetic, electronic, sonic, stroboscopic, or any combination of those, that will consistently keep these animals at bay. Neither will loud rock music, stuffed owls, marigolds, mint, basil, catnip, boric acid, bleach, ammonia, soap bars, Bounce dryer sheets, urine of wolves, coyotes, fox, bear, or dinosaur. Nor will dog-do or even human-do. Did I forget anything?

You have to do it the old-fashioned way. And that way is to trap and remove them, and that should be your ultimate goal. And I'll always say that this is also the reason not to encourage (by feeding) these, or any animal - ever. Any wild animal, habituated to man, becomes dependent on him.
I long trip will kill it, but if you don't want to do that Call animal patrol or just open the hood and shoot it with water, just stay away from the battery, spark plugs, unprotected wires, and air filter. Oh alternator too!
I know this sounds stupid, but it's the ONLY thing that got a family of voles out of my volvo-*ha, Volvo voles*. This guy got under my car with a cigar and let the smoke rise into the engine. the voles were out faster than snot, and it didn't cost me anything or waiting to have someone come out on thier own sweet time.
Take analamsta's advise. There is nothing a squirrel hates worse than the smell of moth balls. He will hi-tail it for greener pastures.

  • Tell me about gray grey squirrels about their litters/babies and nest?

Tell me all you know on the gray squirrel I am in the midwest. It's a gray color not red. We have a nest on our backyard tree, they always come back to it each year, that or it's different squirrels I don't know much about them. Please don't tell me they're annucense, we only have these 2 in our backyard.

They built their new nest about a week ago.

    There are 2 squirrels.

Can you tell me about when they have their babies, how long the babies stay in the nest and more information.

I saw the babies last year when they were pretty small.

Thanks allTell me about gray grey squirrels about their litters/babies and nest?
Gray Squirrels, Red Fox Squirrels %26amp; Black Squirrels are all the same! Just different color phases! They will %26amp; do interbreed. The small red squirrels in the midwest are different species than their larger cousins.

The nest is just a woven mass of leaves %26amp; twigs and is only used 1 season.

If you are in the Midwest the squirrels are probably breeding now- early April. The pups are born about 5 weeks after breeding.

More than 1 litter a year is common.

Mom raises the kids with no help from Dad.

Pups should be out of the nest within 30 to 40 days. Watch %26amp; you'll see Mom teaching them what to forage for.

If you want to feed these squirrels- peanuts, cob corn, popcorn, sunflower seeds are good choices. If your area doesn't have water available for them close by a pan of water (birdbath) is good.

Squirrels do not hibernate, but only go into a semi-hibernation state. Even in the middle of winter they are out on nice days.

They will store food for winter use! Acorns are a favorite. Pinecones also- they shred cones to get at the pine nuts inside.

Their major predators are cats, hawks, %26amp; owls.Tell me about gray grey squirrels about their litters/babies and nest?
Here is a good website that I visit with my youngest child from time to time:

Help! I found 3 baby squirrels that fell from their nest and it's midnight!?

What do I do with them? I heard squeaking and went outside to see 3 baby squirrels on the ground that had fallen from their nest. There was a cat over them, trying to eat them, so I put them in a box and tied the box on a high branch of the tree they fell from (luckily the cat is inside now). How do I care for them until tomorrow when I will take them to the wildlife rehabilitation center? They have all their fur but their eyes aren't open yet.Help! I found 3 baby squirrels that fell from their nest and it's midnight!?
There mother may find them an carry them off it they are still out side. If their eyes are closed then they are not eating solid food yet. If that is the case they are very young. Keep them on the branch an hopefully their mother will find them an take them. she will pick them up in her mouth such as a cat dose with its kittens. If they aren't taken soon call your local shelter an tell them. They may come out an get them for you.Help! I found 3 baby squirrels that fell from their nest and it's midnight!?
Honestly they would be better off if you try again to find them a safe spot in the tree with the cat inside not watching what you are doing You can use a med to small card board box and double the bottom add some leaves cut a few holes around the top of the box and ron rope through to tie it in the tree when the parents hear the babies cry and know its safe they will care for them Sometimes when you take them to a rehabilitation center they end up food for there birds of prey they are waiting to release back Iam sorry to say this but I have seen it I know its hard but its nature it sucks sometimes

If you want to take on hand feeding just research hand feeding baby squirrels you can make formula your self but thats a big step and not legal to keep them they also carry disease and can be infested with tics and lice I have known some one who raised one and it came to visit him all the time after releasing it
dont leave the box outside, bring it inside away from the cat and give them a towel or blanket, cover the box so they dont get out but so they can breath but there isnt anything you can do till u take them to that wildlife place.. check them tho, if that cat got one of them then you should take them to a vet or somewhere. they could even die over night if they are hurt, so check them like now!!
if you have like goat milk or kitten, or puppy milk you could give it to them from a dropper, but they really are proble soo dehydrated they need Subq IV fluids. Do not touch them much use a towel, or you could but them in the nest to see if mom comes back, but they have a sent on them now. Make sure you keep them warm.
Well sounds fun... really, if they have peach fuzz looking fur (light grey)thier probably to young to make it... If thier fur is normal squirrel lookin but thier eyes aint open yet they may make it...

My sister kind of had the same thing happen last year... and only 1 of the 2 survived... and she raised ginger and when she was a teenager aged squirrel she was returned to the wild....

yeah we're from the southern part of America...

    get'er done....
you should put alot of padding, like towels underneath inside the box so the squirrels wont be cold or frightened and try giving them some nuts of some sort.

and best thing to do is look on google or some internet site they should be able to help.
Take to that shelter. Until then, keep the cat locked up, and supply some food. They might be too young to eat solid food, so get some milk and give it to them.
