the bird nest is sitting on porch light 6 inches from soffit and 6 inches from door. Something gets in there and take the eggs one at a time. This is the 2nd set of 4 eggs. Can I put something close to nest to detour the steelers? We do not tuch the nest or the eggs. We know better. squirrels are well known for attacking nests. If you do a web search on how to deter them you may come up with something. I have heard about using pop bottles being slit and then put around a climbing pole to a nest. Some even put plastic flowers in so it looks nice too. This works because the squirrel cannot climb the bottle. Squirrels, especially Grey's are one of the biggest menaces to our North American Song Birds. If you want to protect our song birds, you need to reduce the Predator population such as the Grey Squirrel.
Grease up the area with vaseline.
